Justus Gitari started with a roll of leather scraps and a question. What if every piece was different on purpose? Not because making the same thing twice is hard, but because, for him, making the same thing twice misses the point.
Studded Stories is what came of that. Each piece is cut, formed, stitched, and finished at a small bench in Overland Park, Kansas. Vegetable-tanned leather from places that still know how to tan it. Sterling silver hooks, the occasional cluster of seed beads, a charm now and then. Nothing rushed.
He signs and dates each piece. Once it’s claimed, it doesn’t come back. That’s not a marketing decision, it’s how the work actually happens. The grain shifts, the bead spacing finds its own rhythm, the light catches an edge that wasn’t there in the last one.
If you’re here, it’s because someone you trust thought you’d see something in this work. Take your time. The pieces aren’t going anywhere until someone takes one home.
A piece for a wedding. A gift for someone who matters. A leather you’d like to see worked.
